The BBC News reports the impeachment of US President, Donald J. Trump, who will now stand trial in the senate, on two articles of impeachment, abuse of power and obstruction. As Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, bangs her gavel, she is seen putting her hand up to signal House Democrats not to celebrate after a vote of 231 to 197 in favor of impeachment passed based on the first article, abuse of power. Again, after the second article of impeachment is passed (Yeas 229, Nays 198), Nancy Pelosi is seen refraining her party from clapping or cheering. Nancy Pelosi is noted as believing in the solemnity of impeachment, therefore, nothing to clap and cheer over.
Donald J. Trump is only the third US president to be impeached in American history, joining the ranks alongside former presidents Richard Nixon and William (Bill) Clinton. Hillary Clinton, wife of former president Bill Clinton (who was impeached), was Donald Trump’s rival in the 2016 elections. Opposing views, between Democrats and Republicans, for the ‘Why’s’ for impeachment, have run the gambit between Democrats’ version of ‘President Trump committed criminal acts’ to Republicans’ version of ‘they just hate the man’ and everything in between.
In other videos on the subject, Senate Majority Leader, Mitch McConnel, has received the resolution in favor of impeachment but the trail date has not been set as of the viewing of this video. He has made a statement basically condemning Democrats for passing such a resolution. Many on the Republicans’ side concede they knew the articles would be passed in favor of impeachment and many on the Democrats’ side have conceded that no matter the outcome in the Senate Trial, they felt justified in doing so.
