Science-fiction (Sci-fi) has become a reality as SpaceX and NASA team up. What or who is SpaceX? SpaceX is a private company whose ultimate goal is to “get humans living on other planets”, according to BBC News. The company is behind the creation of ‘reusable rocket launch systems’ that have sent a variety of objects into orbit such as satellites. This partnership has saved NASA money due to the reusable nature of the product.
Who is behind the creation of SpaceX? Elon Musk, who was also behind the creation of PayPal, is the “brain-child” of SpaceX. His goals for the company are to bring sci-fi out of the pages of books and movies and turn them into reality by exploring space & other planets ultimately for humans to live on. In making Sci-fi become reality, SpaceX is also responsible for helping NASA get American astronauts back into orbit.
The first crewed mission since 2011, on this day of May 27th of 2020, was launched from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, USA. Of course everything has not always gone smoothly. With the Corona virus spreading world-wide, extra measures were taken to ensure astronauts were not bringing the virus with them into space. One such measure was quarantining the crew which has been considered the longest ever in NASA history for a crew to be under isolation orders. Years of testing have led up to the launch, but testing has not always gone well, setting the program back by approximately four years. The main benefits to this partnership between NASA and the first privately owned company is the billions of dollars saved by the use of reusable rockets.
